NotanIzer
Nōtan is a Japanese design concept involving the placement of light and dark elements next to each other in a composition. The Yin–Yang symbol is a classic example. Below are the primary tools and how to use them.
How does it work?
Import an image from the camera or photo library (or on Mac, via File menu or drag & drop). The app keeps a local copy and will reopen the last image used. To switch images, open a new one and it replaces the current image.
Tools
- Notan: Divides the image into black and white at an adjustable threshold.
- Black & White: Converts the image to grayscale to emphasize shapes and composition.
- Color: Shows the original color image for reference.
- 3 Level, 4 Level, Levels: Splits the image into 3–10 tonal bands using sliders or +/- controls. Multi-handle sliders observe min/max spacing rules.
On iOS, use the Share button (bottom-right) to export; ensure Photo access is set to “All Photos.” On Mac, the Share button is top-right with additional options in the File menu.
